In Angela's Words

“This isn't about moving cars, it's about giving families back their time.”Angela Saggese, candidate for Vaughan Ward 1 City Councillor

If you've driven through Ward 1 lately, you already know this isn't just frustrating anymore. It's part of everyday life: getting to work, picking up the kids, just trying to get home. Our community keeps growing, but our roads haven't kept pace, and you feel it every single day.

Fixing gridlock starts with better planning, better east-west connections and real investment in our roads. And a simple rule: growth doesn't happen without the infrastructure to support it.

I've spent 30 years serving this community. As your Ward 1 Councillor, I'll work with our regional partners and push for the improvements Maple and Kleinburg have been waiting for. Because this isn't about moving cars, it's about giving families back their time. That's how we protect our community while planning for tomorrow.

Traffic in Ward 1: The Local Picture

Teston Road

York Region studied transportation improvements in the Teston Road area, between Highway 400 and Bathurst Street, and from Major Mackenzie Drive to north of Kirby Road. The Region's environmental assessment identified extending and widening Teston Road from Dufferin Street to Keele Street as the preferred solution, and it was submitted to the Province for review in February 2026. Angela will keep pressure on to move this long-awaited connection from study to construction.

Dufferin Street, Keele Street and Major Mackenzie Drive

Several of Ward 1's busiest roads, including Dufferin Street, Keele Street and Major Mackenzie Drive, are regional roads maintained by York Region rather than the City of Vaughan. Angela supports bringing these key arterial roads under Vaughan's responsibility so local planning and accountability sit closer to the residents who use them.
